The Evolution of the Interactive Whiteboard
The creation of the interactive whiteboard is a huge deal in the field of education. As we can see from this presentation, we have come a long way to where we are now. In colonial days, the only educational tool used by students was the hornbook. Over time, paper and pencil made its debut in the classrooms and for many years it became the standard learning and teaching tool for students and teachers. Today in the 21st century technology is vital in the classrooms.
Ethical Implications of Interactive Whiteboards
Although there are more pro's than con's about interactive whiteboards, in this presentation I compiled a list using different sources with some of the general issues that may arise. Besides the cost being one of the biggest issues, teacher lack of knowledge can be considered as the second biggest issue. In order for these expensive teaching tools to be used to their maximum capability, school districts need to make sure that their teachers are receiving the training that they need.
Implications on Classroom Environment
The interactive whiteboard is a powerful teaching and learning tool that a teacher can have in the classroom. In the UK, elementary classrooms are commonly equipped with this type of technology. The same cannot be said about their universities, it is said that they are slowly integrating them into their classrooms. Unfortunately, in the United States there are some school districts that do not have the funds to equip their classrooms with this type of technology, and sometimes the districts that have interactive whiteboards do not give their teachers the training they need to maximize their use.
